About me
Caleb Dowdell is a painter, singer, actor, and instructor who produces traditional paintings, mural art, graphic designs, sculptures, and theatrical and song performances. In addition to creating original paintings and prints to show and sell at local art walks, online shops, and galleries, he’s taken on commissioned painting projects for over a decade. He created a mural display at the Modesto Silos Lounge and was invited to showcase his solo exhibition “Follow The Light”, which featured his collection of illuminating art pieces, in San Jose and Modesto galleries. Dowdell recently started combining music with his art practice by producing a live vocal ensemble art reception and performing pop songs as he paints live on stage.
Utilizing this practice along with his many talents, he collaborated in multiple community projects including Christina Rhoads’ “When Art Speaks” multidisciplinary showcase that combined dance, theatrical monologues, song, and visual art at the Turlock Carnegie Art Center. His latest community collaboration was with Tiffanie Heben’s “Artists by Artists” exhibition that connected Tracy’s history and past art to today’s artists at the Tracy Historical Museum. Dowdell has exhibited his work in group exhibitions at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, at his alma mater Modesto Junior College, and in his hometown at the Tracy Grand Theater Co-Ops and the Tracy Art Leagues “Expressions!” Show & School Tours.
While nature and portraits remain the main focus of his work, Dowdell uses varying imagery, bold color, and subtle symbolism to highlight social issues, share his culture and faith, and capture emotion and beauty. His work shows that if one looks closely enough, one can find light and hope in the darkest points of life.
