Sheena Rose and Nimah Gobir: Exhibition
Thursday October 1, 2026 1:00pm - 5:00pm PDT
Johansson Projects presents a selection of work by Barbados-based artist Sheena Rose, and Oakland-based artist Nimah Gobir.

Roses's multi-disciplinary practice includes painting, drawing, performance, new media, and public intervention. Her heroic figures explore representations of personal power, referencing symbols of leisure and place.

Nimah Gobir is an artist and educator whose work traces the complexity and nuance of Black identity through the rich tapestry of her family history. Sourced from photographs and shared memories, her mix of embroidery, oil paint, and textile honor the specificity of her Nigerian-America upbringing while appealing to an essential humanity.

The exhibition open in our Project Space for Oakland Art Murmur on October 2 from 1:00 - 8:00 PM.

Gregory Rick: Exhibition
Friday October 2, 2026 1:00pm - 8:00pm PDT
Johansson Projects presents a solo exhibition of paintings by Oakland-based artist, Gregory Rick. Rick makes powerful paintings that delve into archetypal explorations of human nature. Rick’s cathartic mark-making process collapses history while confronting personal trauma. His works reflect episodes of individual experience while in dialogue with the wider world, touching deeply on the political nature of oppressive systems. Inspired by a youth fascination with graffiti, Rick’s blatant narratives convey symbolism and cryptic language that capture the recklessness and hysteria of present-day America. He paints on a shaky historical line cemented in humility and conviction, and populates his pictures with “characters who serve as archetypes,” in conjunction with memory and self-exploration.

This exhibition will be on view at Johansson Projects during Oakland Art Murmur, October 2, 1-8pm.
